FOOD

We will be starting the party at 2 pm and we thought a complimentary drink of Pimms or a non-alcoholic punch would be a great way to kick off the event and for people to mingle before sitting down.

Following that we thought it would be a really nice idea to have a traditional English style high tea at about 3 pm. Plates of scones, cream, jam, cake and sandwiches on long trestle tables to complete the traditional street party feel. All served with a cup of tea and then everyone is welcome to bring their drink for the rest of the afternoon.

After plenty of discussion we thought that the best way of organising this shared feast would be to ask people if they could contribute a plate of food to share or to make a cash contribution. Once we have an idea of what everyone likes to eat we can create a food list and people will be able to sign up for something they fancy making.

Anyone with any special dietary requirements will need to bring their own picnic.

STREET DECORATIONS

The street looked beautiful last year with individual houses contributing to the decoration and we thought that it would be lovely to reproduce this year. We will use the street closure from 12 noon on the day to add additional decoration to the party area.

We had a team of people last year who came out and helped with the decorating, lifting and general preparation and once again, if anyone feels they are able to help out then that would be great.

COMPETITION – themed floral table display

An opportunity to get creative!

For years, the Prince of Wales has never hidden his love of trees, plants, flowers and gardening in general, and we thought it would be fitting to have a flower/plant arranging competition. Themes for the arrangement can be anything to do with King Charles. Examples could be the environment, recycling, architecture, polo or even Camilla!

There will be two categories adults and under 11s and everyone will be able to contribute to the judging.

NURSERY ROAD MEMORABILIA TENT

We wondered if people would be able to help put a display together of the history of Nursery Road and surrounding area. Maybe old and new photographs of the streets, maps, newspaper cuttings, copies of their deeds. Perhaps any items found under the floorboards or in the garden that brings the history of Nursery Road and the streets around Nursery Road alive. Is there anything that you can add?

MUSIC AND SINGING GROUP

We still have the playlist that was compiled for the Jubilee, but if anybody has any firm favourites that they would like to add to the playlist then please let us know.

We would really like to have a group of people who could perhaps help lead some singing for a few songs on the day. If anyone fancies getting together for a couple of quick rehearsals before the event please make yourself known and we will organise some rehearsal dates.

GAMES AND ACTIVITIES

Last year we had tons of quizzes and traditional games lined up for adults and children.

However, people were really keen to chat and get to know each other and we ran out of time and that was the best outcome for the day. However, it would be nice to have some activities prepared for both the children and the young at heart. Some ideas have been Splat King Rat and Pin the Crown on the King. Anyone who has anything to share (I seem to remember a knocking tins down game?) then we will be keen to hear from you. Can anyone help with preparing the Splat King Rat or Pin the Crown on the King?

BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY 8th MAY

The additional bank holiday has been given to us so that we are able to spend some extra time with our friends and loved ones. However it has also been designated a community day where neighbours are encouraged to help each other out.

We wondered if anyone would be interested in offering an hour or two of their time on the bank holiday to lend a helping hand to anyone who might need some additional help in their garden?

Likewise, if there is anyone who could do with a Nursery Road ground force team for some weeding, tidying, planting etc. then let us know.

NEEDED

Does anyone have any old odd plates, side plates, cups and saucers, tea pots, that we can use for the High Tea? Nothing precious please – they might not be returned in one piece!
